I was just browsing the site and wanted to say hi!  My brother (John), his wife (Donna), my sister (Diana), and I (Dennis) recorded at KAJAC back in the mid 70's.  I remember when we first met.  You told us to go home and practice some more.  Good advice.  When we returned we began recording.  Those days are still indelibly etched in my mind.  What an experience to be part of the alumni of such a great team.

A few years ago I was in Carlisle for an event and had to go find the building which housed the studio.  It brought back a lot of memories.  It was great to meet up with you too.  I had no idea how far-reaching the studio actually was.

Thanks,
Dennis Mowery

Harold . . . you can't imagine my surprise at stumbling across this page about KAJAC Studios. My name is Joe Garrison, though nowadays I just go by DJ Garrison. I cut sessions in 1976 at KAJAC and was fortunate enough to get some mileage out of my single "The Windows Of Our Life". We released that song on the "Rush Hour" label. Also at that time, Robbie Wittkowski used one of my songs, "I Love Country Music", which really made me quite proud. I continued to write and tour for the next 20 years, or so. Along the way I recorded at several other studios, but NEVER had the fun, or shared the friendships, that came with recording at KAJAC. I STILL have in my possession the original 16 track master reel along with all the recording session and engineering notes which were taken by Brenda Lee Husman, who is still a close and dear friend who is still living in Iowa.

My travels took me all over the country, but I finally settled down in Indiana, (after the first three or four years of having NO home town) where my record from 1976 had gotten some airplay, and I had a small amount of clout from the interviews I had done there (thanks to the guys and gals at KAJAC for keeping radio response cards on file). I recorded another album there titled "The Gift I Bring" which was a labor of love and never released commercially. Several other albums followed that same pattern, strictly being for sale at concerts or other events.

I finally retired from touring in 2002, and have moved to Tennessee where I am still performing, writing, and recording from time to time. I never became "famous" (whatever THAT is), but have enjoyed many, many years of performing for some of the best audiences in the world. In a lifetime of memories, I STILL have a very warm spot dedicated to the memories of my recording sessions at KAJAC, working with the talents of Bobby "Soulful" Parker from Des Moines , D'Artagnon Brown on bass (from the band "CHASE"), Dale Brown from Lafayette, Indiana, on guitar, and so many other talented local musicians who delivered on every request from me. I have a "wonderful moment" memory of me explaining to one of the trumpet players that I wanted a sound that was something like the trumpeting of a wild elephant at the end of the song "Children Of The World". After scratching his head for a while, he succeeded beyond my wildest dreams, and I still love to listen to THAT part.

I will forever be indebted to the staff and musicians at KAJAC for teaching me how to think like a "professional". My record (just a 45, but special to me) is framed and hanging on the wall in my home studio as a constant reminder of the dedication and work it takes to turn out a good product that you can be proud of regardless of it's commercial success.

Thank you, KAJAC . . . . DJ Garrison
