In 1949 Robert E. Williams, known as "Buster" opened a
pressing plant at 1746 Chelsea Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.
He designed his own presses and shellac based amalgam
compound for pressing the discs. Buster and Sam Phillips
became good friends. Williams provided the warehousing,
local distribution and manufacturing credit that was needed
at the time. Many of the local labels did business through
Plastic Products.
